The GTX 660 Ti averaged an impressive 60fps in The Witcher 2 at 1920x1200, though it was 5% slower than the HD 7870 unless you factor in Gigabyte’s overclock, which garnered an extra 5fps. Nvidia’s latest offering managed 69fps when running Skyrim at 1920x1200, 10% faster than the HD 7870 and 7950. Although it was 20% slower than the GTX 670, we were surprised to see the GTX 660 Ti outpace the GTX 580 by 8%....
The RTX 3050 drops the MSRP from $330 to $250, so you can expect a significant part of the die to be disabled. Case in point, the core configuration has been reduced from 3584 cores to just 2560, a near 30% reduction, but interestingly the same 48 ROPs remain. Although the core boost frequency remains the same at 1,777 MHz, the memory speed has been slightly reduced from 15 Gbps to 14 Gbps....
The hackers behind the Nvidia security breach are setting their sights on the biggest tech companies in the world. Last week, South American hacker group Lapsus$ claimed to have perpetrated a major hacking attack on Nvidia, stealing over 1TB of information and holding it ransom. The Telegraph reported that Nvidia’s internal systems were “completely compromised.” On Saturday, the hackers leaked nearly 190GB of data from Samsung, subsequently publishing the files through torrent....
We also loaded the H440 with 11 hard drives using our modded trays to see how much of an impact that had on cooling performance. The H440’s idle temps are good with the Phenom II X6 1100T and its passively cooled Prolimatech Megahalems getting enough airflow regardless of whether six or 11 hard drives were installed. That said, at around 30 degrees it was running about 10 degrees warmer than the best cases we have tested and that is likely due to the air being warmed by the hard drives before reaching the CPU cooler....

The OnePlus 5 is firmly a mid-table performer, falling around the same mark as the LG G6, Huawei P10 and Google Pixel XL in our tests, but coming in behind the strongest performers such as the Galaxy S8+ and the Xiaomi Mi 6. The OnePlus 5 performs particularly well in PCMark, however its performance in our web browsing tests is less impressive. The factory will create up to 8,000 new jobs in the state, according to Governor Laura Kelly. 4,000 of those jobs will come directly from the factory, while Kelly expects an additional 4,000 to be created by “suppliers and community businesses.” These jobs will be backed by a whopping $4 billion investment from Panasonic into the factory’s construction and continued operations. According to Nikkei Asia, Panasonic chose Kansas as its factory site due to the state’s “favorable tax treatment” for businesses and the relatively short distance between it and Texas – the location of Tesla’s current global HQ; a sprawling, 2,500-acre Gigafactory....
The black brushed aluminum case is stylish and hardly suggests that the Box Office is an affordable media device. Although the facade has been constructed from plastic, it does not detract from the player’s appearance, and has allowed Patriot to be quite creative. Featured on the front of the device is a USB 2.0 port that provides easy access for external storage devices. The port is free of obstructions so that chunky, large capacity memory sticks will not run into any problems when connected to the unit....

Portal with RTX was announced back in September alongside RTX Remix, a free tool that enables modders to add modern enhancements to classic games. The new version of Portal will feature full ray tracing support, hi-res textures and enhanced high-poly models as well as support for Nvidia DLSS2 (and DLSS 3 for those with an RTX 40 series GPU). Portal with RTX is a resource-intensive game and you’ll need some stout hardware to achieve the best experience....
This meant QNAP’s device was 19% faster than our desktop test system and roughly 34% faster than the Synology Disk Station 409+. Read performance was also superior on the TS-809 Pro Turbo NAS, as it managed to beat our test desktop system by an 11% margin and both the Synology and Promise NAS devices by 8%. Lansweeper’s Windows 11 readiness report shows that of 30 million workstations from 60,000 organizations, 57.26 percent are eligible for automatic Windows 11 updates. Over 40 percent don’t meet Microsoft’s notorious official system requirements. In the initial run-up to Windows 11’s launch, much controversy centered on its requirement for TPM 2.0 and a relatively recent CPU. Microsoft wants users to have at least an Intel 8th gen or AMD Zen 2 processor, but the company is considering allowing some Intel 7th-gen chips and Zen 1s....
For years, Israeli security researchers at Ben Gurion University have been busy looking for ways malicious actors can exploit physically isolated computers to exfiltrate sensitive data. The team headed by Dr. Mordechai Guri is well-known for finding novel and unorthodox methods of accessing so-called air-gapped systems. Various techniques they have discovered include using computer RAM as a small Wi-Fi transmitter, manipulating display brightness to send ones and zeroes through security cameras, or tuning the speed of cooling fans to create vibrations that can be easily recorded using a smartphone....
Researchers from the Université de Montréal decided to re-observe the planetary system using the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes a few years later in hopes of learning more about them. The bet seems to have paid off. While the team has not directly detected the presence of water on the remote worlds, other evidence points to that likelihood. Planets c and d have more than three times the volume of our own planet but their mass is only twice as large, making their densities much lower than Earth’s....
At 1440p, gamers will require no less than an R9 290/390 or GTX 970 just to break the 40fps barrier and we are of course talking about the average frame rate here. These GPUs only just kept the minimum frame rate from dipping into the 20s. At the top of the food chain the Fury X wasn’t a great deal slower than the GTX 980 Ti and we are confident with an optimized driver the Fury X will end up alongside its green competitor....
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuted in theaters on December 16, 2016. It quickly broke a billion dollars at the box office, officially making it a blockbuster hit. It should be no surprise since fans and critics liked Rogue One better than the prequel trilogy released more than 10 years earlier. Part of what made Rogue One so great is that it didn’t have the stereotypical Hollywood ending. It didn’t come to a happy little feel-good conclusion, at least not for the Rogue One crew, but that was a good thing....
Hydrogen for the test was generated using wind and tidal power from the Orkney Islands of Scotland and was supplied by EMEC (European Marine Energy Centre). Rolls-Royce partnered with easyJet in July to develop hydrogen combustion engine technology for aircraft. Hitman is yet another heavily CPU bound title as we see similar performance trends to that of Grand Theft Auto V. Again the Ryzen 5 2600 lagged behind the 8400 out of the box and then once overclocked hit the lead and produced double digit gains for the frame time performance. It feels like a very long time since I last benchmarked with Just Cause 3 so it was kind of nice to fire it up again....
The Samsung S3C29MAX01 controller chip is utilized accompanied by two 128MB Samsung DDR2-667 cache chips (serial code “K4T1G164QE”). This cache is intended to improve small write performance and eliminate any ‘stuttering’ issues. We were surprised to find two cache chips, one on either side of the PCB, as every SSD we have seen so far only includes a single cache chip. The PCB used is very small and it would appear that Samsung could easily release a 1....
The 840 Pro’s file copy results are hard to explain. Its single large compressed file performance was mind-bogglingly good, while its multiple small non-compressed file performance was mind-bogglingly bad. Between those two extremes, the small and large compressed and uncompressed “game” test gave fairly standard results. The drive went on to perform very well in our game install and virus scan tests. Synthetic benchmarks such as CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD Benchmark revealed that while the 840 Pro’s sequential read performance has not improved over the 830 (perhaps due to limitations of the SATA 6Gb/s interface), the drive’s write performance has improved dramatically....
