We already know about Intel’s entry-level A380—read Steve Walton’s review of the underwhelming desktop graphics card here—so most of the interest will be on the higher-end A770 and A750. For the A770 flagship, Intel has confirmed that it will use the full-fat ACM-G10 GPU that packs 32 Xe cores, has a clock speed of 2,100 MHz, a total board power of 225W, comes with 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 560 GB/s....

The Core i7 2600K rendered 83.3fps and the Core i5 2500K was not far behind managing 82.3fps. This made the Core i7 2600K roughly 13% faster than the Intel Core i7 975 EE. The Core i5 2500K was also 36% faster than the Core i5 750. The x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 is used to measure the performance of a 2-pass 1280x720 encoding, displaying the results in a frame per second format....

The NUC6i7KYK makes for an impressive little encoding machine. Using HandBrake we were able to render at 198fps making it 9% faster than the Asrock DeskMini and 20% faster than the MSI Cubi 2 Plus. The NUC6i7KYK dominated the x264 HD Benchmark, here it was 32% faster than the Asrock DeskMini for the first past test and 23% faster in the second pass test. Finally, we have TMPGEnc Video Master Works and here the NUC6i7KYK took just 298 seconds to complete the workload, or 7% faster than the Asrock DeskMini and 38% faster than the MSI Cubi 2 Plus....

The news comes on the heels of another recent Chiphell post that reportedly shows the same RTX 4080 running TimeSpy Extreme and FireStrike Ultra at the top of the 3DMark leaderboards. While the Miix 2 8 does allow you to run desktop applications, it’s not very convenient or user friendly on its 8-inch display. Most desktop applications are designed for larger displays and suited to mouse and keyboard input, so the lack of a dock for this tablet makes using the desktop an awkward proposition. That said it is possible to use Microsoft Office on the Miix 2 8, but it’s certainly not as nice to use as if it were running on a 10-inch tablet....

The 38GL950G sports a new display format: 37.5-inch panel with a 3840 x 1600 resolution. This gives it roughly the same pixel density as 3440 x 1440 displays we’ve had for a while, and about the same aspect ratio. Technically neither format is exactly 21:9 but it’s close enough. The result is the same sort of experience as 3440 x 1440, but from a larger screen, about 9cm wider and 3cm taller....

At the upcoming InnoTrans transportation tradeshow in Berlin, Germany, LG will demonstrate a transparent OLED display. The panels are intended to replace train car windows. Germany’s premier railway company Deutsche Bahn will also have a new concept train on show installed with the OLED transparent windows. The display functions just like a regular TV or monitor but appears as a transparent window when not in use. The displays have already been in use in China and Japan....

The worst thing about LG’s software offering is still the inclusion of duplicate and bloatware apps. I complained about this exact same issue with the LG G5, and it seems LG has done literally nothing to address the issue with the G6. There is simply no reason that an Android OEM needs to clog up the phone with apps that Google already provides. Two gallery apps. Two email apps. Two music apps....

Precision immersion cooling manufacturer Iceotope conducted a study with Meta (a.k.a. Facebook) to test the effectiveness of cooling high-density hard drives in a server environment. The study shows that liquid cooling is more effective than air cooling, resulting in better hard drive reliability and virtually silent operation. Iceotope says the amount of data every person consumes on the internet is expected to explode over the next several years. Thus the study was carried out to see if liquid cooling could serve as a viable upgrade for cooling large quantities of hard drives and storage servers to meet increasing demands in internet data consumption....

Watching AMD chip away at Intel’s lead in the survey’s processor section has become an expected trend in recent times. Team red hit the 30% mark in May, and while there were a couple of months where its share dipped, it always bounced back straight away. But a -0.04% decline in February and a -0.26% fall in March is the first time that this writer can recall two consecutive months of shrinking user numbers for AMD CPUs....

This week’s new advertisement for WhatsApp is the latest jab at Apple for refusing to extend encrypted messaging and other features to non-Apple platforms. On social media, Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp boss Will Cathcart contrasted the app’s latest features with iMessage. An ad above the entrance to Pennsylvania Station shows three message bubbles in different colors. One is green to represent SMS or MMS messages appearing on iPhones, and one is blue to represent iMessage....

Developed by BioWare and published by EA on PC, Xbox One and PS4, Mass Effect: Andromeda vows to be bigger and more beautiful than prior releases. Although initial impressions indicate that the game delivers on some of those promises, it hasn’t been a flawless execution so you may want to read a full review before buying this one (or just Google “Andromeda animations”). The game begins in the Milky Way Galaxy during the 22nd century with humanity planning to populate new home worlds in the Andromeda Galaxy as part of a strategy called the “Andromeda Initiative....

The phone I have with me today is the Meizu m3 Note, a 5.5-inch budget device with an attractive price tag of just $170. This places it in direct competition with one of my favorite budget devices, the 3rd-generation Motorola Moto G, along with the mediocre Umi Touch I reviewed a couple of weeks ago. The m3 Note could fall into the trap of offering good hardware but failing to use it properly; it’s a common thread among budget Chinese OEMs....

From the results above, the m3 Note blitzes most of the competition with chart-topping battery performance. The sheer size of this battery results in the m3 Note having fantastic battery life across the board, almost to the point where you could comfortably use this device for two days without charging. Meizu hasn’t achieved these results by improving the energy efficiency of this device: in our web browsing tests, for example, the m3 Note falls in line with the efficiency we’ve seen from flagships like the Galaxy S7 Edge....

At 1440x900 gamers using low-end GPUs won’t be able to set the visual settings at their highest as the Radeon HD 7850 produced just 21fps and the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost/750 Ti averaged 29fps. For an average of just over 30fps gamers will need to use either an HD 7950 or GTX 660 while the HD 7950 Boost and R9 265 both averaged less than 40fps, with 38fps each....

Starting next week, Microsoft Office will block macros in files downloaded from the internet by default, “reversing a reversal” Microsoft had made just earlier this month. The new policy will be enforced starting July 27 as a security measure, but the company is taking greater pains to explain its decision this week. Macros are helpful because they can automate some processes in Office applications. However, macros in online files can be vectors for malware and ransomware....
