It’s important to measure power consumption with something that stresses all cores and I’ve found Corona works well for providing accurate results, so these load figures are based on the Corona benchmark after a single pass and I’m reporting the maximum logged result. This is total system draw and I’m using a Cabac Power-Mate to measure from the wall draw. When it comes to power draw the Core i7-8700K is certainly on the high side but it’s not as extreme as what we saw from the Skylake-X CPUs....

Then the second generation graphics (Sandy Bridge) changed all that by including the GPU on-die. Even though both processing units were under the same roof, the GPU was still independent of the CPU. It featured its own clock domain that could be set independently and could be powered down as needed. This same design principle was used for Ivy Bridge, Intel simply added more horsepower. There were two versions of the Intel HD graphics with the Ivy Bridge processors using either the HD 2500 or the faster HD 4000 engine....

The Core i7-4770K showed stellar HandBrake performance, rendering 285.4fps making it 11% faster than the i7-3770K, it was also slightly faster than the i7-3960X by a 2% margin. When running the x264 HD Benchmark the Core i7-4770K again demonstrated strong performance gains over the i7-3770K, this time it was 13% faster. The Core i7-4770K was able to beat the i7-3960X in our last encoding test based on TMPGEnc Video Master Works....

If we mix and match for the two systems we built, this is what would make the most sense: The Corsair Hydro Series H100i is an impressively high quality closed-loop liquid cooler, but at $100 it costs more than the G3258, which obviously doesn’t make much sense. While it might be a must-have item for Core i5-4670K and Core i7-4790K owners, Pentium G3258 users will be better off with the cheaper Silverstone Argon Series AR02....

This week, an established leaker claimed that the first 13th generation Intel CPUs will release on October 17. Also, this week, another leaker posted internal Intel documents confirming the upcoming processors use the same microarchitecture as Alder Lake, which launched last year. The release date comes from Enthusiastic Citizen (ESCM_Official), who recently shared benchmarks of Raptor Lake’s Core i5-13600K. They claim Intel will unveil its next-generation CPUs at its Innovation event in September, before an October 17 launch....

The AS SSD Benchmark 4K-64 Thread performance is also average when looking at both the read and write results. The Intel SSD 510 120GB is certainly not in the same class as the Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB for these tests, but we suspect this has a lot to do with the Intel drive’s smaller capacity. The Intel SSD 510 120GB’s read access time is relatively poor compared to the other drives tested....

FTX’s implosion earlier this month rocked the crypto industry. After traders withdrew $6 billion in three days from the platform following news of an FTC investigation into FTX mishandling withdrawal requests and Binance backing out of a merger deal, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US on Friday. Now, a class action lawsuit has been launched by investor Edwin Garrison against Bankman-Fried claiming he misled customers and cost investors billions of dollars in damages....

As for battery life, I was actually very impressed with what the combination of a 35 Wh internal battery and Intel’s Core M CPU delivered. The ThinkPad Helix lasted noticeably longer than the Yoga 3 Pro during my standard use of the device, which is a good result considering the Helix’s battery and display are 22% and 24% smaller respectively. When writing Word documents, editing Excel spreadsheets and browsing the web in Chrome, I achieved around seven to eight hours of battery life with the display set to a moderate brightness level....

Across the board, the G6 packs better battery life than the G5, though this isn’t a huge surprise considering how poor the G5’s battery life was. The gains aren’t massive by any stretch, and due to the larger display, the G6 actually fails to reach an 18 percent battery life improvement in most tests. In PCMark, for example, the G6 lasted only 14 percent longer, with this margin falling to just five percent in browsing tests....

The G-Slate features a slightly smaller display than the Apple’s iPad and Motorola’s Xoom, which makes it lighter and thereby easier to hold to a certain extent. The random 512KB test gave the LG N2A2 a hard time and really hurt the write performance. Although the read performance was also low, it roughly matched that of our test system as well as the new budget Synology DS211. The 4KB random read and write test saw the LG N2A2 easily outperform our test system, while it was only slightly slower than the Synology DS211.

Locking them in place is a slider on the right hand side which is fixed into place using a pair of thumb screws. There is also a lock which can be used to hold the drives in place for better security, a pair of keys is included. Lian-Li has also included a lock kit for the left door, which can be installed though it is worth noting that only the latch is included – you need to provide your own lock....

The MaxxPI² benchmark is again very intriguing as the AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor cleans up in the multi-threading test, beating even the Core i7 920 processor with a calculation time of just 10.9 seconds. When running the single-thread test, the Phenom II X4 965 tanks with a 60.2 second calculation time, which doesn’t seem to add up. Still, having run the test several times, this is the result we received each time....

Although we don’t support piracy, we are not fond of media giants getting a hand from governments to legally tap on users’ online activities either. It’s our belief that draconian DRM restrictions and other related nuisances is what’s affecting the industry in the first place, but that’s another story. What we can tell you so far is that to enjoy Mass Effect: Andromeda with its best visual settings, you’ll require a powerful GPU, even if you plan to play at a resolution of 1080p. Here we really recommend nothing less than the Radeon R9 390 or GeForce GTX 970, though you don’t expect to see GPUs such as the RX 480 8GB coming in around the GTX 970. Once AMD further address these performance issues we might see lower-end GPUs such as the R9 380 delivering more acceptable performance here....
