So what’s the deal? Why has the 3800X been so hard to get, how does it differ from the 3700X and why has the TDP increased by over 60% for a 100 MHz increase in boost frequency? Apparently it’s all about binning and yields that may not be as good as AMD hoped, or maybe demand has also played a role. Silicon Lottery recently released some Ryzen 3000 binning data and this suggests the better quality silicon has been reserved for the 3800X....

Apple has a new catalog of audiobooks created with no help from voice actors. According to Cupertino, the new AI-based listening option will bring innovation, quality and money to the traditional Apple Books marketplace. Some publishers and partners aren’t so eager to try the AI as they are still committed to traditional human voice as an art form. Apple was rumored to launch its new audiobook catalog in mid-November, but delays and hostile market conditions resulted in a quieter launch as pointed out by The Guardian....
According to a report from Nikkei Asia (via MacRumors), Apple has asked its suppliers to cut production of the iPhone SE 2022 for this quarter by as much as two to three million units, a reduction of around 20%. Seemingly backing up the report is Ming-Cho Kuo. The renowned Apple analyst tweeted that while the Shanghai Covid lockdowns (read more about those here) won’t impact iPhone SE production, demand is lower than expected....
At Arm’s Client Tech Day 2022, the company unveiled its next-gen lineup of processor cores that implement the ARMv9-A architecture. Semiconductor companies such as Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek will utilize these designs in their upcoming SoCs intended for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and more. The Cortex-X3 is Arm’s new peak-performance CPU core design, providing an 11 percent uplift in IPC performance compared to last year’s Cortex-X2. The company also claims the X3 clocked at 3....
Whereas the Celeron N3000 is a dual-core with a base clock speed of 1.04GHz and a boost clock of 2.08GHz, the Celeron N3150 is actually a quad-core that operates at no less than 1.6GHz while it too can run up to 2.08GHz. Performance-wise, the N3150 is considerably faster as you might expect given it has twice as many cores under the hood. Both use the Intel HD Graphics engine with 12 EUs clocked and the N3000 graphics engine is clocked at between 320 and 600MHz....
The Beebox-S took 11.5 seconds to complete the Excel 2013 workload, which places it on par with the Core i3-4130 and only slightly behind the MSI Cubi 2 Plus. The PowerPoint result was surprisingly strong as the Beebox-S took just 3.7 seconds to complete the workload, making it a good bit faster than the MSI Cubi 2 Plus. The 7-zip benchmark generally does better with more cores. Still, despite only offering up two cores the Beebox-S does alright here providing 8129 MIPS....
I’ve been using the latter as my day to day HTPC since August and it’s been doing a fantastic job, so I didn’t expect it to be replaced a few months later. Nonetheless, Asrock has sent an updated Beebox-S model sporting Intel’s new 7th-generation processor based on the Kaby Lake-U architecture. Rather than look at the Beebox-S 7200U in detail, we’re going to focus on the upgrade to Kaby Lake as this is the only notable change....
We also tested CPU utilization using a 1080p .mkv copy of Avatar (converted from 1080p Blu-ray). Again, the CoreHT performance was standard but we were surprised it came in behind the Ion 330HT.
The Asrock Ion 330HT-BD improved on the Gigabyte GA-GC230D by an 84% performance margin for the Flops test and 99% for the Mips test. As a pattern that won’t change throughout our testing, the Atom 330 is significantly slower than your typical desktop processor.

This multipurpose controller has an OLED panel that shows the system’s status along with tuning and overclocking options. I found this feature to be a bit gimmicky, as adjusting things such as the system volume from the front of the case isn’t practical or useful to me. Furthermore, navigating the A-Command menus is clumsy with the dial and much slower than software alternatives. Still, while we didn’t find the A-Command button useful, it’s not totally pointless for everyone and at the very least, it still looks cool and that’s probably most of the original intent anyway....
The x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 was used to measure the performance of a 2-pass 1280x720 encoding, again displaying the results in a frame per second format. Although the software favored the AMD Phenom II X2 560 HTPC, the Asrock Vision 3D was 13% faster than the Core 100HT-BD. Using TMPGEnc, we converted a 715MB avi file to mpg and measured the time it took for each processor to complete the task....

The AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor is superior when testing with the x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 as it was 18% faster than the Core i5 750. Once again we did not see any difference in performance when comparing the 890GX and 785G chipsets. The TMPGnc 4.0 XPress test places the Core i5 750 processor at a slight advantage, with no discernible difference in performance when comparing the 890GX and 785G chipsets....
This seems to have translated to results, with the Zenfone 5 producing a disappointing showing in the following battery benchmarks. Standby battery life, which we don’t benchmark, is actually pretty good, so if you’re not a heavy screen-on user you’ll probably see results that are slightly better than what’s reflected below. The Zenfone 5 comes with several battery saver modes, one of which is labelled as Ultra-Saving Mode that disables network connectivity when the display is off....
Interestingly, the Radeon HD 5450 leaves the old Radeon HD 4350 well behind when testing with Unreal Tournament 3. That said, with just 31fps at 1440x900, Unreal Tournament 3 which was released back in 2007 seems to be as far as we will stretch the Radeon HD 5450 for gaming purposes.
The Radeon HD 5570 was able to match the Radeon HD 4670 when testing with Unreal Tournament 3 at 1920x1200, while at the same time it was 27% slower than the Radeon HD 3850. Furthermore, the Radeon HD 5570 was found to be 37% slower than the GeForce 9600 GT at the same resolution.
