Amber Alerts will start appearing in US Instagram feeds today. Over the next two weeks, they’ll come to 24 other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Ecuador, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Jamaica, Korea, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates. Twitter doesn’t officially support Amber Alerts but accounts often post them — a testament to the importance of social media for finding missing children today....

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said select users will soon be able to share NFTs that they’ve made or bought in Feed, Stories or in messaging. There will be no fee associated with posting or sharing an NFT on Instagram, we’re told. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg added that plans are in place to bring similar functionality to Facebook soon. Assuming success, Meta could expand NFT support to other apps or services in its family....

Intel and Raja Koduri, chief architect and senior vice president of the company’s architecture, graphics and software division, have repeatedly said that Arc isn’t going away. According to an alleged leaked roadmap from RedGamingTech, we now know Intel’s future plans for its discrete desktop cards. The roadmap shows that Intel will release two 150W SKUs in the current Arc series during this quarter: the SKU4 (D23-P5) and SKU5 (D23-M3), both of which are more mid-range cards offering 6GB of 16 Gbps memory....

In the end, we couldn’t really say who would buy 10900K. The more affordable Core i7-10700K though, now this looks to be a more interesting part. Essentially what we have here is a Core i9-9900K at a 25% discount, as Intel has set the MSRP at $375. Even if you won’t be able to immediately find it at that price, it’s a reasonable discount over the previous gaming king, the 9900K which can still be found retailing for $530....

This was also the case with the previous 12900K model, though to a much lesser degree, and in that instance we were far more impressed with the Core i7 version, so will the i7-13700K also prove to be the more sensible choice? Well, let’s find out… In today’s review we’ll do a repeat and not just look at benchmark figures and raw performance, but also power consumption and operating temperatures, but first things first, let’s talk about pricing and go over the specs....

The Core i7-5960X reached what appears to be a GPU limitation in Watch Dogs, hitting 52fps at 1680x1050. This placed it on par with the Core i7-4790K and Core i5-4670K. The Core i7-5960X’s extra cores don’t provide any advantage in Thief and its lower clock speeds place it at a disadvantage when compared to the Core i7-4960X, 4790K and 4670K. In fact here the mighty 5960X is no better than a low-end Core i3 processor....

Overclocking aside, there is a lot to consider with today’s launch and the entire Haswell-E platform, the highlights of which include Intel’s 8-core 5960X, its X99 chipset and the introduction of high frequency DDR4 memory. For us, the X99 chipset is one of the most important factors because it’s a significant upgrade over the X79 and a slight upgrade over the Z97. Although the X99 isn’t a huge improvement on the Z97, it’s a much better situation than what the LGA2011 platform faced previously where its flagship chipset was a considerable downgrade from the mainstream versions....

Project Cars 2 is a new racing simulator that is also quite demanding on processor. Here we see the Ryzen 5 1500X taking a real beating at 720p compared to the Core i5-7600K. Again, it’s the eighth-gen Core series that delivers the best results. The 8700K’s minimum frame rate was 16% greater than that of the 7700K and 23% greater than the 1800X and 1600X. Those margins are reduced to just 5% in favor of the 8700K over the 7700K but still 20% over the six and eight-core Ryzen CPUs....

We saw how the 7740X and 7640X struggled in the applications tests and here we see much the same in our first gaming benchmark using Battlefield 1. The 7700K was 5% faster than the 7740X when looking at the minimum frame rate and that’s a decent margin, much the same was seen when comparing the Core i5 CPUs. Again this time when testing with Mafia III we see that the mainstream Core i7 and i5 CPUs provide the best results....

Prior to the NVMe driver being installed we see that the Intel SSD 750 Series 1.2TB drive only managed a throughput of 365MB/s in our single large file test, matching the Samsung SSD 850 Pro 512GB. However, once the NVMe driver is installed the SSD 750’s performance is transformed and the drive how hits 706MB/s or 93% faster than the SSD 850 Pro. The program copy test is comprised of many small non-compressed files ranging from just 1K up to 5000K in size (6104 files totaling 2....

Despite its impressive file copy performance, the Intel SSD 750 Series 1.2TB drive isn’t able to deliver the fastest game installation time, as it was 1 second slower than the Plextor M6e 256GB and just 1 second faster than the 850 Pro 512GB. Without the NVMe driver installed the SSD 750 took 96 seconds and it was slower than most of the 2.5" ‘performance’ SSDs. Scanning Windows’ System32 folder using MSE wasn’t particularly fast with the Intel SSD 750 Series 1....

Intel announced that it was developing Blockscale ASICs in January when Bitcoin was worth twice as much as it is now and hardware was desperately in demand. Its second-gen is arriving after the market has satiated its need, which is usually when Intel starts shipping its hardware (I’m looking at you, Arc GPUs). Despite that, the Blockscale ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) is a great chip. It measures 7 mm by 7....

Earlier this month, Intel revealed it had been investing in blockchain technology as part of its renewed strategy to develop “the most energy-efficient computing technologies at scale.” These investments have mostly gone into developing specialized chips for hashing cryptocurrency transactions, also known as mining ASICs. During this year’s IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), Intel revealed more details about its first-generation “Bonanza Mine” (BMZ1) blockchain acceleration solution. We have seen some pretty incredible creations incorporating Lego Mindstorms over the years. A recent example and arguably one of the most impressive was this fully functional pinball machine made entirely out of Lego bricks. The build featured more than 15,000 individual bricks and packed three Mindstorms NXT “brain” bricks used to control an array of servo motors as well as light, color and ultrasonic sensors. The LG 34GN850 iterates on that winning formula with a few notable improvements. LG is still using an IPS panel, but they’ve upgraded it to their latest 1ms Nano IPS tech, the same good stuff present in LG’s popular 27GL850. The 34GK950F was no slouch in terms of response times, but this new ultrawide panel should elevate the 34GN850 to the next level. LG have also found a way to increase the refresh rate, now topping out at 160Hz, up from 144Hz, through an overclocking option in the OSD....
