Priced at $649, the Fury X is AMD’s most expensive single-GPU graphics card yet, and yes, we feel GPU pricing has gotten out of hand, likely thanks to anyone who has bought a variant of the GeForce Titan. Priced alongside the GTX 980 Ti, the Fury X delivers competitive performance and due to its compact design using a liquid cooler, it also runs much cooler. However the GTX 980 Ti is a significantly better overclocker, netting more than 20% extra performance, which is why it got the nod in our recent multi-GPU SLI vs....

Using Cinebench R15 to measure single and multi-threaded performance we once again find extremely impressive figures from the Ryzen CPUs. The 1600X lays waste to the 7600K’s multi-threaded score, essentially doubling it. That said, for single-threaded workloads, the higher memory clock speed of the Core i5 results in the 1600X being 11% slower here. Moving to the 1500X, we find it’s just 15% slower than the 7700K in the multi-threaded test and 21% slower when looking at single-thread performance....

As a result, AMD has had to be aggressive with price cuts for the whole launch lineup which includes the 7600X, 7700X, 7900X and 7950X processors, and while that has helped, it’s only addressed part of the problem as AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory remain expensive. Today a barebones B650 board will set you back $160, while basic X670 boards start at an absurd $260. Then you’re looking at around $150 for a 32GB DDR5-6000 memory kit, or around $180 for lower latency CL30 modules we usually use for testing....

When Intel launched Tiger Lake last year, they were able to reclaim the performance crown in many key workloads for thin and light laptops. While they only had up to four CPU cores compared to eight in AMD’s line-up, Intel was able to deliver class-leading single thread and graphics performance, topping the charts in many lighter applications you might expect to use on this kind of machines. But with Ryzen 5000, AMD is back to nullify Intel’s key advantage....

All Ryzen 4000 APUs are based on the Zen 2 architecture, built using 7nm technology with a monolithic die that also incorporates a Vega-based GPU. In a series of tweets today, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that Apple’s upcoming A16 chipset might continue to use TSMC’s N5P process node, the same as its predecessor, the A15. The decision was reportedly made because the Taiwanese foundry won’t be able to produce enough chips on the new N3 node this year to fulfill demand. Meanwhile, N4P, another improved variant of the N5 process, will only start mass production next year....

Ultrabooks in particular received quite a bit of attention, and we’re not surprised. Intel is putting a lot of weight behind the concept and expects it to be the main driver of PC market growth in the short term. Apple has already experienced some of this with the MacBook Air, which has rapidly become one of the best sellers in the Mac lineup. Arguably it’s the laptop to beat if you are looking into buying an ultrabook-styled portable....

As of May 2021, there were 6.4 million Apple Card users. Backed by Goldman Sachs, the overall service is popular for its convenient features, including Apple Pay and wallet app integration, real-time balances, on-device account management, cash back, and secure card/CVV numbers. Apple Card has been successful enough that Cupertino now wants to hold your savings. On Thursday, the company announced it would soon offer “high-yield” savings to Apple Cardholders....

Netflix confirmed its venture into the gaming market in July 2021, followed by a rollout of Netflix Games into Android and iOS devices in November. In the beginning, the game lineup only featured ten titles from various genres, but the new additions will increase it to a dozen. First, we have Arcanium: Rise of Akhan, a Hearthstone-like game with roguelike elements developed by Supercombo and Rogue Games, the same studio behind Card Blast (also available on Netflix)....

The Beebox matched the Liva X and the N3050-ITX in Cinebench when comparing both single and multi-threaded performance. Suffice it to say that the performance wasn’t great as these are the weakest results we have seen from a modern desktop computer. As you can see the 3D performance of the Celeron N3000 is greatly improved compared to the Celeron N2808 but it’s still not worth writing home about. The Beebox scored just 2724pts in the old 3DMark 06 benchmark and while this again made it much faster than the ECS Liva X it was much slower than the Asrock N3050-ITX motherboard....

We used EVEREST to measure the L2 cache performance of each processor. The Phenom II X2 560 in our custom built HTPC provided a greater read result when compared to the Core i3 370M of the Vision 3D while the write performance of the Core i3 370M was significantly higher. The Core i3 370M was considerably faster than the Core i3 330M processor in this test.

That trend continued in Photoshop CS5: the Core i7 2600K blasted the i5 750 and Phenom II X6 1100T, but the Z68 and P67 delivered nearly indistinguishable results. It took the Core i7 2600K just 96 seconds to compress a 720p HD audio/video file with WinRAR on both platforms.

The only problem we found was that it doesn’t scale at all with Windows 8’s DPI. Running at 125% makes everything results in a blank panel on the side of the utility. Still, the software is usable, despite not looking as neat as it would otherwise. The first menu – titled ‘Operation Mode’ – offers performance, standard and power saving modes that can be further tweaked with custom settings....

As Ars Technica recounts, AT&T last month told CNET that it would be releasing a software update to allow select “older” handsets to leverage its newly acquired 3.45GHz C-band spectrum. AT&T picked up the spectrum during the Federal Communications Commission’s spectrum auction back in January in what proved to be the third highest grossing auction in FCC history. The telecom led the pack with 1,624 licenses acquired for a total of $9....

The older Radeon HD 4890 graphics cards perform very well here and, surprisingly, even beats the 5850. The Radeon HD 5830 was able to match the Radeon HD 4870 and GeForce GTX 285 graphics cards at 2560x1600 with an average of 39fps, so overall not a bad result. In Resident Evil 5 the Radeon HD 5830 is once again outperformed by the older Radeon HD 4890. With an average of 47fps at 2560x1600, the Radeon HD 5830 was just 4% faster than the Radeon HD 4870 and 2% slower than the GeForce GTX 285....

The Radeon HD 5870 performs well in Unreal Tournament 3, beating the Radeon HD 4870 X2 by 5fps at 2560x1600. This also made the Radeon HD 5870 7fps faster than the GeForce GTX 285, and 24fps faster than the Radeon HD 4870. The only graphics card to defeat the Radeon HD 5870 was the GeForce GTX 295. When testing with World in Conflict at 2560x1600, the Radeon HD 5870 delivered 46% more performance than the 4870....

This week, as I played the second, final episode of Infinite’s Burial at Sea expansion, I felt like I got glimpse of that game.
