Red Canary analysts have disclosed a cluster of malware activity that uses a worm spread via external USB drives. The malware employs the “QNAP worm,” which cyber-intelligence firm Sekoia described back in November 2021. However, Red Canary detected it in some of its technology and manufacturing customers’ networks and tracked it since September under the codename Raspberry Robin. Raspberry Robin spreads when users connect an infected USB drive to their computer....

This method won’t come close to testing the maximum performance of the USB 3.0 bus, but at this stage, it’s the best we could devise. USB 3.0 devices that can fully utilize this new interface are virtually non-existent. The MSI P67A-GD55 provided about average performance with solid reads but lackluster writes. Meanwhile, the Gigabyte P67A-UD7 had very strong read/write performance to all six rear USB 3.0 ports but whatever reason, the front ports were slightly weaker....

The Call of Duty series debuted almost 20 years ago on PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms. These three became the pillars on which CoD has laid its foundation. With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the series may lose one of them, but it won’t be as soon as you might think. Before Microsoft announced the acquisition, the publisher had already signed a deal ensuring Sony consoles would receive at least three more CoD games....

While most of its peers exceeded 50 degrees, Noctua’s NH-U14S kept the Core i7-4960X at 46 degrees under full load. Nonetheless both water cooling units improved that figure by a few degrees with the larger Tundra TD02 holding a 2C advantage. The Tundra TD02 generated 43dB of noise which is roughly on par with the Noctua NH-U12S, though the Hydro H75 managed to shave a dB or two off the best air coolers....

Side note: When we first tested Dirt 3 using the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 we found the Athlon II processors really struggled. However since then the game has been patched and it appears that this might have corrected the poor performance that we saw on lower end processors. The AMD A8-3850 (DDR3-1866) was considerably faster than the Athlon II X4 640, providing 11% more frames per second. That put it 3fps behind the Core i5 750, but also 2fps faster than the Phenom II X6 1100T....

The incredibly successful Zen architecture has turned the modern CPU market upside down, bringing AMD to the top of the performance race and giving users a much needed competitor to the long-lasting Intel run. There is a computing area, however, where AMD CPU are still suffering from a performance penalty – even though there are no actual reasons to justify this state of affairs. While using a Linux-based operating system, AMD CPUs are slowing down when they shouldn’t....

The Povray v3.6 benchmark heavily favors the Phenom II X6 1100T, allowing it to provide the best result we have seen in this test from a processor running at stock speeds. The Phenom II X6 1100T edged out both the Core i7 975 EE and Core i7 980 XE processors. Interestingly, the Phenom II X6 1055T performed much slower than we expected, despite its clock speed increase, but it was a fraction faster than the Core i5 750....

The Crysis 2 performance was surprising as here the Radeon HD 7870 was just 4% slower than the HD 7950 at 2560x1600. As a result it was 4% faster than the GeForce GTX 580, 26% faster than the GTX 570 and a whopping 33% faster than the Radeon HD 6970. Meanwhile the Radeon HD 7850 was also very fast averaging 20fps, making it 5% faster than the GeForce GTX 570, 43% faster than the GTX 560 Ti and 25% faster than the Radeon HD 6950....

The Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition was impressive when testing with Aliens vs. Predator, rendering 42fps at 2560x1600 making it 13% faster than the standard 7970 and 31% faster than the GeForce GTX 680. Again we see a very small performance gain delivered by the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, as it was just 1fps faster than the standard 7970. This meant that the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition was also 1fps faster than the GeForce GTX 680, giving it a 2% performance advantage....

The R9 Fury X was able to best the GTX 980 Ti in Sleeping Dogs at both 1600p and 4K where it was 6% and 12% faster, respectively. The R9 Fury X also outpaced the GTX 980 Ti by 7% and 12% in Thief, delivering an impressive 64fps at 1600p and 38fps at 4K.
