Samsung today announced the industry’s first 24Gbps GDDR6 RAM which will power the next generation of graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD, as well as laptops, game consoles, and AI accelerators for the data center. The Korean tech giant says it has already begun sampling the new memory chips with a capacity of 16Gb and says its customers will begin verification tests sometime later this month. Furthermore, commercial availability will be aligned with upcoming GPU launches, so it won’t be long before we’ll see 24Gbps GDDR6 in shipping products....

However, as the Note 4 is a newer device with a different set of features and hardware, the software isn’t identical. The general interface has received some minor changes (most stock app backgrounds are now white instead of black, for example), some features have been altered and some others have been removed entirely. The most notable changes to the basic features I have summarised for you below. The app switcher has been revised for the larger display, featuring larger images in a cascading tile view....

The other hardware in the TabPro S is fixed. You’ll be netting yourself an Intel Core m3-6Y30 CPU, which is a 4.5W Skylake SKU clocked at 0.9 GHz on two cores with a Turbo speed of 2.2 GHz on a single core, or 2.0 GHz on both cores. The integrated GPU is a HD 515, which has 24 execution units clocked up to 850 MHz, and there’s also 4 MB of L3 cache....

Samsung has officially started mass production of chips at its Hwaseong facilities using a 3nm process node and gate-all-around transistors. In doing so, the Korean tech giant has managed to beat rival TSMC in the race to develop leading-edge manufacturing techniques for the growing performance and energy-efficiency demands of the hardware industry. The company says the new fabrication process offers significant improvements when compared to its own 5nm node, such as increasing power efficiency by 45 percent, reducing area by 16 percent, and improving performance by as much as 23 percent....

According to a recently published study funded by NASA, scientists have successfully grown plants in soil brought back from the Moon. Six Apollo missions collected a total of 381kg of lunar soil and rocks, and last year NASA finally decided to donate 12g of it to the University of Florida. There, researchers planted thale cress seeds, an easily-growable plant native to Eurasia and Africa, in approximately a gram of soil each and moistened it with a nutrient solution daily....

Skyrim on the Switch has always been an oddball. It launched on November 17, 2017, and, apart from the addition of some trinkets borrowed from Breath of the Wild, is a straight port of the original game. Yes, the original game — not the Special Edition from 2016 or the Legendary Edition from 2013. Bethesda released the Anniversary Edition on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on November 11 last year to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the original game....

All three of Sony’s new 4K laser projectors support wide dynamic range and dynamic HDR enhancers. These features should offer higher contrast while adjusting HDR quality frame-by-frame. Although these models restrict 120Hz to 2K resolution and don’t have variable refresh rate (VRR), they do feature reduced input lag for gaming. Sony claims that at 60Hz, the projectors have just 21 milliseconds of lag and only 13ms at 120Hz. The lowest-tier model is the $6,000 VPL-XW5000ES which offers 2,000 lumens of brightness....

On Tuesday, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced it is investigating Apple, Google, and the local One Store, for allegedly violating its app payment processor law. The South Korean regulator could charge the companies up to two percent of their average annual revenue. Last summer, South Korea passed an “anti-Google” law which says app store regulators like Apple and Google can’t force customers to use their in-app payment processors, from which they take sales cuts....

AstroForge’s first mission is slated for April. It will hitch a ride on SpaceX’s Transporter-7 rideshare rocket. The trip will show investors the company can extract and refine ore in space. The team will use a 6U CubeSat loaded with “astroid-like” material to test its techniques in zero gravity. It has already proven its refinery can operate in a vacuum. AstroForge didn’t have a date ironed out for its second mission other than that it would be later this year....

Using the highest game quality settings there were just a select few graphics cards that could break this mark. This included the Radeon HD 5850, 5870 and GeForce GTX 480. Graphics cards that could also be added to this list include the GeForce GTX 470, Radeon HD 4870 X2 and GeForce GTX 295. The Radeon HD 4890 averaged 39fps, putting it right on the border of what we consider to be perfectly playable performance in this game....

Financial firm Piper Sandler’s biannual Gen Z research project (via Fast Company) surveyed 7,100 teens about multiple subjects, including “the metaverse.” While 50% admitted to having little or no intention of buying a VR device to access the virtual space, 26% said they already own such a device, and 9% said they were interested in making a purchase. Research firm Wave7 (via PCMag) conducted a survey of salespeople at US carrier stores to get an idea of the smartphone market today. According to the results, 56% of reps said that iPhone SE 3 demand is weaker this year than it was for the previous iPhone SE, and just 8% said demand is stronger. The survey backs up a report from March that claimed Apple had asked its suppliers to cut production of the iPhone SE 2022 for the quarter by as much as two to three million units, a reduction of around 20%, due to low demand....

Although the DS1515 is still a very new product, as it was only announced on April 14, Synology has already cranked out a total of nine updates and that means multiple updates per month.
