FurMark suggests that the 3D performance of the LANParty UT X58-T3eH8 and LANParty JR X58-T3H6 are slightly weaker than the MSI and Asus X58 motherboards. This is seen at 1024x768 where the minimum frame rate of the DFI LANParty motherboards is weaker than that of the competition, if only by a small margin. Using the Unigine Engine Sanctuary and Tropics tests we recorded the score at 1024x768 for each motherboard....

Mixing and matching products and services from its various divisions could result in a well-rounded and attractive subscription offering that competitors simply can not match....

Elden Ring’s official Twitter account posted the game’s official PC system requirements Tuesday, confirming pretty steep minimum requirements that briefly appeared last week. They are a significant jump above the recommendations of developer FromSoftware’s previous game, Sekiro. Elden Ring requires a minimum of 12GB of RAM, an i5-8400 or Ryzen 3 3300X CPU, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU. That’s slightly higher than Sekiro’s recommended specs which included 8GB of RAM and a GTX 970....

Elden Ring has earned an average critic score of 96 on OpenCritic, but opinions about the game are further reflected in the sheer number of Steam users playing it. Reviews on Steam are not quite as favorable, with 84 percent of reviews being positive. A skim through the reviews reveals some players are not happy with the PC performance issues present in the game. At launch, the action RPG peaked at almost 800,000 concurrent players but since then, that number has increased to over 950,000....

Musk confirmed over the weekend that Twitter’s entire verification process was being revamped. Reports claimed it would require a subscription to Twitter Blue—the optional $4.99 per month service that gives users extra features—which would increase to $20 per month. It appears that had been Musk’s plan, but author Stephen King was one of many verified users to speak out against it, warning he would be “gone like Enron” if it gets instituted....

Musk made his comments at an energy conference in Norway, where he said his attention was currently focused on his SpaceX spacecraft and self-driving Tesla vehicles. “The two technologies I am focused on, trying to ideally get done before the end of the year, are getting our Starship into orbit […] and then having Tesla cars to be able to do self-driving”, he said via Reuters. Musk also spoke about fossil fuels, insisting that he was not someone who demonizes them....

Researchers from the University of Florida and the University of New Hampshire presented work on an “invisible-finger” attack at Black Hat USA 2022 in Las Vegas last week. Using some complicated science, a robotic arm, and multiple antenna arrays, the scientists could remotely simulate a finger touching the capacitive touch screens of several devices. The method involves using one hidden antenna array to pinpoint the location of the targetted device and another to generate an electromagnetic field with precise frequencies to send voltage signals to the sensors in the display....

World of Warcraft was considered a massive success with its peak of 12 million players (8 million today), yet it’s dwarfed by World of Tanks’ 1 million concurrent players and 75 million total users – a following that is growing by more than 2 million a month. These kind of numbers aren’t entirely unique to World of Tanks, either. You can find more than half a million people playing Dota 2 on any given day and League of Legends has over 7....

Gainward’s GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost card consumed 11% more power than the GTX 650 Ti and 6% more than the Radeon HD 7850 when stress tested using Crysis 3. It also used 16% less power than the GeForce GTX 660. On the SLI side, the pair of GTX 650 Ti Boost boards consumed 323 watts, or ~40% more than a single GTX 650 Ti Boost graphics card. This was 3% less than the Radeon HD 7850 Crossfire cards and just 7% more than a single GeForce GTX 660 Ti....

However, handpicking the best GPUs is just part of the equation. Gigabyte needs to pair them with components that are of equal quality. Using what Gigabyte calls “Ultra Durable VGA+,” the company believes its SOC graphics cards are accompanied by the best components possible. The Ultra Durable VGA+ technology used on the GTX 580 SOC brings five NEC proadlizers, also known as film capacitors, to provide amazing current capacity and extremely low ESL/ESR for better overclocking....

Our overclock of the GTX 780 Ti resulted in a 10% performance boost over Gigabyte’s factory overclock and 21% over a standard GTX 780 Ti, while our overclock of the GTX 780 GHz Edition offered 8% more performance for a 26% lead over the standard GTX 780. Our custom overclock of the GTX 780 Ti allowed for 7% more performance over Gigabyte’s factory overclock and 15% more than Nvidia’s spec in Crysis 3....

At its factory settings, the Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 SOC-equipped system consumed 359 watts, 1.4% higher than the GHz Edition and 8% higher than a standard 7970. Our 1.2GHz overclock only increased load consumption by 1.6%, however, when increasing the voltage to 1.3v to achieve 1.26GHz, the load draw increased 12% to 403 watts. That’s a significant jump, though it’s mostly justifiable when you consider the performance gains. Gigabyte claims its WindForce 5X cooler reduces temperatures by 18% over AMD’s reference design....

To get a fuller picture, it’s increasingly apparent that you need to factor in a card’s frame latency, which looks at how quickly each frame is delivered. Regardless of how many frames a graphics card produces on average in 60 seconds, if it can’t deliver them all at roughly the same speed, you might see more brief jittery points with one GPU over another – something we’ve witnessed but didn’t fully understand....

This is still a gaming monitor at heart, of course.
