The Gigabyte P67A-UD7 maintained its number one spot in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 while the MSI P67A-GD55 came in last, again by about one frame. Interestingly, the Civilization V late game benchmark favored the Asrock P67 Extreme6, but the results were extremely close on all five P67 motherboards.
Looking at read performance the Asrock P55 Extreme was the slowest of the bunch, while the Gigabyte P55-UD6 was again the fastest by a 4% margin. The next MaxxPI² test looks at CPU cache performance where the results were very much the same for all seven motherboards. The Turbo Mode appears to be just as efficient on the value boards as it is on the more expensive high-end boards. EVEREST Ultimate Edition gives us a second opinion on memory bandwidth performance and the results are even tighter with no more than 200MB/s separating the fastest from the slowest motherboards in either the read or write tests....
Deadline reports that Paramount+ has won a bid to produce a television series based on the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. The streaming service has partnered with Entertainment One (eOne) on the project and tapped Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story director Rawson Marshall Thurber to write and direct the pilot. Production company eOne shopped the idea around back in November. Competition to land the show was fierce, with Paramount ultimately having the highest bid (undisclosed)....
The GTX 780 was tested using DirectX 11 in Total War: Warhammer as it doesn’t support DX12 in this title. Even so performance was excellent as the 780 matched the 1060 3GB and GTX 970 at 1080p. Moving to 1440p the 780 dropped off its pace ever so slightly, though for the most part provided comparable performance to the GTX 970, 1060 3GB and RX 470. It was also significantly faster than the GTX 1050 Ti here....
BMW offered a teaser of its upcoming i7 sedan, which is expected to be fully revealed next month, with sales to follow later this year. Alongside the gopping kidney grille that’s now become a staple of newer models, the i7 also has a party piece for rear passengers. Called the ‘BMW Theatre Screen,’ this 31-inch 32:9 ultrawide display folds out of the car’s roof liner and streams content at 8K resolution....
His score of 48,235 points in R23 is about 8,000 points ahead of second place –an i9-12900KS overclocked to 7 GHz also on LN2. It’s about 11,000 points or 30 percent higher than the leaked scores of factory-clocked 7950Xs, and nearly 20,000 points higher than the regular scores of the 5950X. The overclocked 7950X managed to leapfrog over the other 16-core CPUs and into the territory of 32-core behemoths like the Threadripper 3970X....
During AMD’s second-quarter earnings call, CEO Su confirmed that the highly anticipated Zen 4 CPUs and new AM5 motherboards are set to launch in the current quarter, ending on September 30. “Looking ahead, we’re on track to launch our all-new 5nm Ryzen 7000 desktop processors and AM5 platforms later this quarter with leadership performance in gaming and content creation,” Su said. This week, VentureBeat’s interview with AMD senior vice president Sam Naffziger included visuals showing the company’s predictions for near-future hardware. While Naffziger expresses confidence AMD can hit its ambitions for energy efficiency gains over the next few years, AMD’s numbers paint a concerning picture of rising energy demands. As engineers everywhere bump into the limits of Moore’s Law, consumers worry that GPU TDPs could grow to alarming levels. Rumors have suggested Nvidia’s next-generation flagship, the RTX 4090, which might launch late this year, could need as much as 600W....

When testing at 2560x1600 the Radeon HD 7870 averaged 26fps in the Aliens vs. Predator benchmark, making it 21% slower than the HD 7950. Yet despite that it was able to match the GeForce GTX 570 which was impressive. The Radeon HD 7850 also did well with an average of 21fps, making it 11% faster than the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. The Alan Wake results were more inspiring as the Radeon HD 7870 averaged 31fps at 2560x1600 making it just 16% slower than the HD 7950, while it was incredibly 3% faster than the GeForce GTX 580 and 26% faster than the GTX 570....
The Radeon HD 7870 averaged 45fps in Deus Ex Human at 2560x1600 making it just 2% slower than the GeForce GTX 580 and 15% faster than the GTX 570. Additionally it was also 5% faster than the Radeon HD 6970. The Radeon HD 7850 on the other hand matched the GeForce GTX 570, while it was 3% faster than the Radeon HD 6950. The Radeon HD 7870 was able to average 46fps at 2560x1600 in the Dirt 3 benchmark, making it just 8% slower than the Radeon HD 7950 and GeForce GTX 580....
Those dates come from a tweet by Greymon55 (via VideoCardz), who cites a “reliable” source. The leaker believes the cards will arrive very soon after the Ryzen 7000 processors that land sometime between late September and early October, leaving little time between the two launches. It’s believed that AMD will release the Navi 31 GPU for the flagship Radeon RX 7900 series first, followed by the Navi 33- and Navi 32-based cards....
Whether you’re mind controlling messenger pigeons or moonlighting as a tank driver, either hobby is best enjoyed with Vega 56. We saw a nice little bump in performance at 1080p and a solid 13% gain at 4K. For our resolution of choice Vega 56 offers 11% more performance over the GTX 1070 which is certainly a noteworthy gain and a great result for the red team in Battlefield 1....
Unlike Mass Effect Andromeda, we’ve found that in the past AMD’s not super competitive in Dishonored 2. We certainly see that here we comparing Vega 56 and the GTX 1070 at 1080p and 4K. Looking to the 1440p results the GTX 1070 was 14% faster and that’s quite a margin, more crucially whereas the 1070 average well over 60 fps, Vega fell short of the desired frame rate. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Looking back to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt we see that Vega is competitive in this title but at the same time it’s not really beating the much older GTX 1070 either....
Time to see just how power hungry Vega really is, well at least the cut down 56 model anyway. Here we see that the results aren’t that bad, granted Vega 56 does push total system consumption 13% higher when compared to the GTX 1070, it’s actually a small improvement over the RX 580 which we wasn’t expecting to see. So Vega 56 isn’t going to make your power supply sweat or smoke or whatever it is they do when under pressure....
After talking about the new version of its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) last week, AMD has now revealed more details on FSR 2.0, including its support for the Xbox consoles and Nvidia graphics cards. In an extensive post detailing FSR 2.0, AMD revealed that the technology would be fully supported on the Xbox and available in Xbox Game Development Kits for implementation in games. The original version was used in a handful of Xbox titles, including the Myst remake....
With a $550 MSRP, it’s actually slightly cheaper than the Core i9, so it will be interesting to see how they stack up and we’ll get to the benchmark results as quickly as possible, but before we do, let’s go over the 7900X specs. What we have here is a 12-core, 24-thread Zen 4 processor that clocks between 4.7 GHz and 5.6 GHz depending on the load. Like the 7950X, we’re getting two CCDs along with a 6nm I/O die....
Computex starts next week, and this will be the first time in two years that the event will be held in person, after being canceled in 2020 and being online-only last year. Dr. Lisa Su will hold a keynote this Monday (or Sunday, depending on where you live) and may announce some new information about AMD’s upcoming Zen 4 CPUs, AM5-based motherboards, and even RDNA3 GPUs. There are also some new rumors regarding AM5 motherboards, starting with the chipsets....
American Airlines announced that it placed an order for up to 20 Overture aircraft from Boom Supersonic, with an option for an additional 40. The companies didn’t say how much the deal was worth, but American did mention it has already paid a non-refundable deposit on the initial 20 aircraft. Boom claims the Overture will be able to carry 65 to 80 passengers and fly as fast as Mach 1....
